Don't Miss An Opportunity to Achieve Your 2020 Goals

2020 has been a rough year for a lot of people and for businesses in general. It’s a tough market and the way we do business has had to change significantly for 90% of businesses.

Trying to sell to the same prospects can be exhausting, we hear it all the time. People are scared, they’re cautious with their budgets and they’re not buying like they did last year.

But there’s one organization that is spending MORE than they did last year...to the tune of an additional 3 trillion dollars! The U.S. government.

I frequently talk to folks who have never sold to the government before and hear what I like to call “The Ten Myths of Selling to the Government”. These are very commonly perpetuated but misinformed statements about selling to the government that people have accepted as truths for a very long time.

Here they are:

#1- A majority of government procurement opportunities go out for bid/ RFP.

#2: The Government is looking for the “cheapest” (lowest cost) solution.

#3: Government procurements are highly competitive with low margins.

#4: Your company needs to be on a GSA or State contract to win government business.

#5: It’s hard to find/identify government sales opportunities.

#6: You need a large/dedicated team to respond to government procurement opportunities.

#7: It takes a long time (6 to 9 months) to win a government procurement.

#8: You need to be a “registered company” to be awarded a government contract.

#9: The process to sell to various government agencies is basically the same.

#10: Your company doesn’t need to be selling to the government.

NONE of these are true.

The biggest one that prevents most people from selling to the government is that they think most government business goes through the bid/RFP process and therefore takes MONTHS to win a government sale.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

80% of government sales don’t go through the bid/RFP process at all, meaning that it can be a very short process to win a sale. When I say short, I’m talking, a couple of weeks, days, or literally even a few hours.

The government actually has ten ways that they buy OUTSIDE of the bid/RFP process and these are their most commonly used procurement methods. Knowing about these systems is crucial to winning government business and can help you increase your sales exponentially.
